The Storm

I am going to start out this blog site with a dream that I have recorded from a few years ago.

November 9, 2008

Last night I dreamt about some crazy magic.

We, I and other random people, were in a log cabin-type building and these demons kept appearing. All I remember is that I knew their intentions were bad and, luckily, this star symbol would appear on the ground before they would pop up.

I knew what we had to do to expel each demon. It got rather frustrating because some of the others were slow to act because they were afraid. I had to pick those that were at higher Mage levels, remind them to keep their backs to the demons and walk them through it step by step. Even though it was crazy, I wasn't scared, just ticked off! Most of the people knew what they should do but wouldn't.

The town that we were in lay high in a valley surrounded by sharp, majestic mountain chains that put the Grand Tetons to shame. The valley was flat and green as you headed back into the mountains and there was a steep cliff that lay between the village and the lower ends of the gap between the mountains and the rest of the world. The village, with the buildings all clustered near the edge of the cliff, was small, close-knit and had the feeling of an old western film.

After making sure the appearing demon situation was under control, I spent time wandering the town and interacting with whom I came in contact. I also got to ride a horse. This horse was not a pet, but a rogue creature. I affectionately called it Demon (ironically enough). At one point someone had tried to saddle him but only managed to get it on him backwards. Demon seemed content to not let anyone change it and let only me ride him.

At this point my most awesome sister, Tember, ran up to me and informed me that there was a huge storm was about to hit the town. All of those with the Gift to use crystals were needed to protect the valley. The crystals could be used to project a protective shield over the valley, so everyone with the Gift was told to grab their crystals and head down to a small cabin in the middle of the cliff face.

I quickly threw some survival things into a bag and jumped into a truck with my sister. I rode with her for a bit while I pulled out my bag of crystals. Each crystal was individual and would not always respond strongly to the call of the Gift. I had to touch each of them to my wrist to see if they would sing with my blood. I finally found two that made my heart quicken upon touching my skin. I then jumped out of the truck because I knew that I would be better off riding my horse.

I searched the town for Demon. When I found him, for some reason he would not let even me fix the saddle and ended up riding off without me. I felt abandoned, yet I knew something had to be done.

I found another truck and started driving. I did not go towards the cabin with the others. I felt drawn to a look out along the cliff’s edge that was close to one of the mountains. I could see the wall of dark purple clouds that were coming up between the mountains toward our village. I knew that if I could just place myself where I could see them with my physical eyes I would know what to do for my Gift with the crystals was different than that of the others.

As I reached the lookout, it was raining. I tried to back the truck up and turn it around to be better positioned, but, as I did, the back tires slid off the ledge. I felt the truck begin to fall and in my mind I could see exactly what would happen and how I would die at the bottom.

I was not ready to die.

That knowledge gave me power to rewind what had happened to just before the tires slipped and stepped out of the truck, planted my feet and, like I was supposed to, faced the on-coming storm…
